Are you a fan of electronic ‘learning toys’?
I find most of the electronic stuff (VTech etc.) annoying and I prefer more imaginative toys for my daughter. I’ve even said, ‘I want to be the one to teach her the ABCs – not some toy!’
But she loves the electronic ABC fridge magnet set that her friend has… so now I am buckling. Her 2 1/2 year old friend knows her alphabet because of the singing fridge magnets! My daughter knows a couple letters – and we do the ABCs at least 2-4 times a day.
What are your thoughts on the electronic toys?
I think that it is a combination of things. No one thing should be used independantly. We have some electronic toys and we have good old fashioned blocks too. Some thingshold their attention longer on some days and the next day, it is something else.
Your friend’s daughter may know the alphabet SONG but does she actually know the alphabet? Letter recognition is learning the alphabet- singing the song is just memorizing a song.
