Rack And Pinion Seal Busted. How Much To Have Repaired?
I don’t drive this car much but when I can’t take my bike, I gotta use this. And today, I noticed that when I pulled it out of my garage, power steering was all over the floor and found out that the rack and pinion seal on the driver side was bad. The boot is completely torn. Filled it up with power steering and it just leaks fast.
Can you have someone just reseal it and then do the wheel alignment or do you have to buy a brand new rack and pinion?
I’m not familiar with power steering aspects of the car but I do know other aspects of automotive. I’ve rebuilt a few engines so I have the knowledge and am curious if this is something I could do by myself? Atleast install and then go get the alignment.

Would be a good idea to just swap it with a new rack. Even if you get it from Autozone or something. Chances are there will be more problems down the road with the other side. That, and racks aren’t easy to repair on your own. It will cost you money but you’ll be saving yourself A LOT of headaches and future problems by getting a replacement. You would also have a warranty on the rack you purchase.
